During this event Senator David J. Valesky and Assemblyman William Magee were presented with the winning artwork from the 2009 Vision for a Healthy Madison County Art Contest.
This event was sponsored by the Upstate Institute at Colgate University and Madison County Health Department.
Purpose
- Introduce the Madison County Health Improvement Plan during National Public Health Week and gain community buy-in and support.
- Create an awareness of the four priority health issues in Madison County: (1) public policy, (2) community economic development, (3) health literacy, and (4) access to healthcare.
- Gain commitment to advance initiatives to develop and integrate solutions to the priority health issues into all aspects of life and at the individual, organizational/business, and community levels.
Expected outcomes
For the Community
- Become more aware of the Madison County Health Improvement Plan
- Learn about local initiatives and strategies to enhance initiatives by incorporating an aspect of health for consideration in respective communities
- Identify new opportunities to address priority health issues and engage local leaders
For Business and Organizations
- Become more aware of the Madison County Health Improvement Plan
- Increase your organization’s awareness of its “healthiness” and potential contributions towards building a healthier community and workforce
- Identify opportunities to intentionally integrate new policies and practices that support and address one or more of the priority health issues
For Individuals
- Become more aware of the Madison County Health Improvement Plan
- Increase awareness of the “healthiness” of each individual’s neighborhood and the contributions that an individual can make to promote positive change.
