What is Telemedicine?
Telemedicine is a cost-effective technology that allows a patient to monitor and manage his or her health at home with increased interaction with his or her nurse. The telemonitor unit can measure blood pressure, weight, blood sugar levels and temperature. After using the unit, a patient transmits the data to the Health Department's central telemonitoring station. After reviewing patient data, a Home Care Nurse may schedule a home visit or update the patient's physician.
As disease and disability increases in our aging populations, the use of telemedicine will allow for earlier detection of a decline in health for timelier interventions.
Our health departments telemedicine program's goal...
Is to provide access to affordable, quality health care that adds to a persons independence and quality of life at home by allowing patient's greater participation in their own care.
